Findlay Creek Farmstead welcomes volunteers who want to help with animals, visitors, grounds, gardens, Farmstead projects, events, and our growing community.

Flexible Volunteering

You do not need to volunteer every week. Choose the dates and opportunities that work with your schedule.

No Experience Required

Previous farm, gardening, or animal experience is not required for most opportunities. Instructions are provided based on the activity you are helping with.

Daily Drop-In Volunteering

Daily drop-ins provide flexibility for volunteers who would like to help outside of our regular Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday schedule.

When completing the Daily Drop-In form, select:

  • The day you would like to volunteer
  • Your anticipated arrival time
  • Your anticipated departure time

Arrival and departure times are estimates. We ask for them so the Farmstead has an idea of who is expected on-site and approximately when volunteers will be available.

Daily drop-ins are subject to Farmstead availability. Please submit your planned day and times through the Daily Drop-In form so the Farmstead team knows to expect you.

Wednesday Volunteer Day

Wednesday is our primary open volunteer day from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Arrive anytime during the volunteer window. You may stay for one hour, several hours, or for the full volunteer period.

When you arrive, check in with the Farmstead team and you will be directed toward an available task or area where help is needed.

Saturday & Sunday Event Volunteering

Saturday and Sunday are official public Farmstead event days from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Volunteers may receive specific assignments based on that day’s needs, including animal areas, visitor assistance, parking, admissions, concessions, Farmstead monitoring, or general floating support.

High School Community Involvement Hours

Findlay Creek Farmstead offers volunteer opportunities for high school students working toward their required community involvement hours.

Students can gain hands-on experience while helping with appropriate Farmstead activities, animals, visitor areas, grounds, events, cleanup, organizing, and seasonal projects.

How Volunteering Works

  1. Choose the volunteer opportunity that works best for you.
  2. Complete the appropriate registration or availability form.
  3. For a Daily Drop-In, select your date, anticipated arrival time, and anticipated departure time.
  4. For Saturday or Sunday events, submit your availability for that specific event day.
  5. Bring suitable outdoor clothing, boots, a water bottle, and weather-appropriate items.
  6. Check in with the Farmstead team when you arrive and receive your instructions or assignment.

Do I have to volunteer every week?
No. Volunteer according to your own availability. Choose the dates and opportunities that work with your schedule.
Can I volunteer on days other than Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday?
Yes. Daily Drop-In volunteering may be available. Select your preferred date, anticipated arrival time, and anticipated departure time using the Daily Drop-In form .
Why do you ask for my anticipated arrival and departure time?
It helps the Farmstead understand approximately who is expected on-site, when volunteers may arrive, and how long help may be available. We understand these are anticipated times and that schedules can sometimes change.
What happens on Wednesdays?
Wednesday is our primary flexible Volunteer Day from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Volunteers can help with Farmstead projects, animals, grounds, gardens, organizing, cleanup, and other tasks that need attention.
What happens on Saturdays and Sundays?
Saturday and Sunday are official public Farmstead event days from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Volunteers may receive specific assignments depending on the needs of the Farmstead and the number of volunteers attending.
Why do you ask for an emergency contact?
We ask for an emergency contact so that if an emergency occurs while you are volunteering at Findlay Creek Farmstead and someone needs to be contacted on your behalf, we have an appropriate person to reach. Your emergency contact is not used for regular volunteer scheduling, marketing, or general Farmstead communications.
What emergency contact information should I provide?
Please provide the person’s name, their relationship to you, and a reliable telephone number where they can be reached if necessary.
Do I need previous farm or animal experience?
No. Previous farm or animal experience is not required for most volunteer opportunities. Instructions are provided based on the task or area you are helping with.
What should I bring?
Please bring a water bottle, sturdy closed-toe footwear or boots, a hat for sun or rain, and a raincoat as a backup. Steel-toe boots are preferred where appropriate.
Is there somewhere to leave my raincoat or personal items?
A designated storage area is available for items such as raincoats when they are not being used. Please avoid bringing unnecessary valuables.
Can high school students earn volunteer hours?
Yes. High school students can apply for eligible community involvement opportunities through our High School Volunteer Hours page .
Can I choose what I want to help with?
You may let us know about areas you are interested in. Actual tasks and assignments depend on Farmstead needs, safety requirements, available activities, and volunteer experience.
What if I can no longer attend?
Please let the Farmstead know as soon as possible so that the schedule, assignments, or available volunteer spaces can be adjusted.
